It's that blessed time of year again, when bridal shops from the world over descend on one of the most magical cities for a weekend of fashion shows, designer sightings, cocktail parties, and general excess of fabulousness and fun. That's right, it's Fall Market, and we couldn't be more excited...
There is always so much to do and share while we're away, and during October especially, the designers put on grand shows and leave us wanting very little. Charlotte has been doing this bi-annually since she opened The Bride Room doors in 2001; this will be Stephanie's fifth visit to market. Take it from us...it never. gets. old. Here's our top three things we just can't wait to get to:
- the fashion shows: seems like a no-brainer, but coming off the heels of an unbelievable 2010 mercedes benz fashion week last month, we couldn't be more optimistic about we might be seeing this weekend. did you see monique lhuillier's ready to wear collection? stunning. hate to get ahead of ourselves but since the media has seemingly put the sneaky little recession word to sleep, it appears our designers are taking risks and employing creative liberty again. and that? looks really good on a runway and walking down the aisle.
- martha stewart weddings annual shindig: need we say more? last year was the 15th anniversary of the famed mag and the amazing team at MSW pulled out all the stops to fete this glorious industry at the plaza. it was ah-mazing. this year? they're opening their very own workspace - the offices of the publication! - and welcoming us all in. we're totally psyched over the thought of behind-the-scenes goodness and would someone please show us the prop room?!?! maybe we'll even get to see martha's corner office? :) stay tuned...
- what's new in bridesmaids: we've spent the last year and a half or so establishing that not all bridesmaids are created equal, and therefore do not have to be dressed as such. maids collections have by and large assumed a more cocktail and ready-to-wear aesthetic and seems like the old 27 Dresses cliche might become a thing of the past (wishful thinking?). either way, amsale never disappoints with her classic looks, ms lhuillier is launching her debut maids collection, and lela rose has a new look and price point. very hopeful about how darling 2011 bridal parties will be. :)
And this is probably just the beginning. We don't know what we don't know yet, and it seems like Debra Moreland or Augusta Jones always surprises us with something we hadn't thought of. We tweet a lot during market (maybe too much?), update facebook and even find time to blog - so please, we invite you to come along and share the fun of bridal market...it is truly the most wonderful time of year! :)
- as a sort of post-script, it needs to be said that the new forever21 in times square is an honorary fourth that we are so ready to see in person. a whopping 91,000+ square feet can make even these two very very experienced shoppers think twice about going on a saturday. just sayin... ;)
